Remember when I said that a huge goal of mine was to do something that scared me… every single day? Well, check a ginormous one off my list.
This one I have to share with you today is something I wouldn’t have thought possible one year ago.
I never thought I’d:
be singing with my (oh so talented) sister, Meredith. (outside the privacy of her room!)
know any banjo chords.
have the guts to share something like this.
I can’t tell you how excited and nervous I am for this post. This video is scratchy and done with a webcam, so the quality isn’t the best. However, the lyrics are sincere… and so are we.
My good friend Angelica Baca wrote this song and I’ll never forget the first time I heard it. I KNEW I had to learn it. In fact, this is the first song I ever really learned how to play, without looking at the chords written down in front of me. (Doing this is a HUGE step for a beginner like myself :) )
Please enjoy this song.
Meredith and I are calling ourselves Plain Jane Glory. Here’s our first cover. (Some originals to come!)
LYRICS for NOBODY’S BABY
by Angelica Baca
And you can call me by my first name/ Because I’m nobody’s baby
And please don’t elevate me/ It’s that much farther to fall
No need to handle me so gently/ ‘Cause I’ve been broken completely
And even if you treat me sweetly/ It won’t get you anywhere at all
It’s just so hard/ For me to let down my guard
With such fresh scars from being on/ The losing end of the last one
I hope you know that you can’t blame me/ Anymore than you can save me
You’d almost have to be crazy/ To take me on
‘Cause I don’t know if I’ll get steady/ Or if I’ll ever feel ready
I’ll try to love you if you let me/ ‘Cause I ain’t no good at being alone
And you can go/ If you don’t wanna take it slow
Or let it grow, I just might be/ The greatest lover that you’ll ever know
But please call me by my first name/ Because I’m nobody’s baby
Love,
Lou
