It’s day 17 and I’m a little under the weather, but I got close to my million hours of sleep, and plan to get a few hundred more before tomorrow morning.
Yesterday’s blog, Life Itself Depends On What We Give, meant a lot to me after what turned out to be a whirlwind of a day. I wrote it in a hurry and I know I have more to say about that particular story and about the poem I was able to snap a photo of. I’m thinking, though, that the “more” I promised on that blog will have to come later this week.
Today’s topic: a favorite photo of yourself and why
When I thought long and hard about my favorite photograph of myself, a few came to mind, and then suddenly, it was easy to choose. It’s kind of a strange thing, a favorite of yourself. How narcissistic, eh? But at the same time, it’s good to have a positive self image and honestly, photographs help.
Here is my all-time-favorite.
Now, it’s kind of funny, because the person who took this thought I’d be mad at him for snapping it. He said he liked the picture, but didn’t really want to show me. When I saw it, I thought, “Huh. Hmmmm. I’m not drooling, so that’s a PLUS…. my eyes are all the way shut….another PLUS…. ” (Sometimes, the way I sleep can be alarming to the untrained eye!)
I wound up loving this because I wasn’t posing for it. I wasn’t holding my chin down and sticking my neck out and smiling, but not too much in the eyes, I didn’t make a choice on whether my teeth would be showing….. I didn’t think about all of the things that normally flash through my brain the split second before a picture is taken of me. And there’s something very special about that.
I truly appreciate the person who took this. There are so few special people in our lives who seem to see us as we really are, both figuratively and literally. He helped me see (figuratively and literally) myself in a better light. It wasn’t just the picture, either.
This is hopefully how I’ll look for the rest of the day, as I regain my strength (after I eat a bunch of garlic) and prepare for work tomorrow.
Love,
Lou
